Taking the Leap: When Is the Right Time to leave your Full Time Job and Freelance

The Right Time to Say Goodbye to 9-to-5

Today, I want to dive into a topic that's close to many of our hearts—making the transition from a full-time job to freelancing. It's a journey I've navigated personally, and I hope my insights can help those of you considering this significant career shift.

The Right Time to Say Goodbye to 9-to-5

Deciding when to leave your full-time job to pursue freelancing isn't about finding the perfect moment—because, honestly, there might never be one. It's about recognising the signs that it's time to take control of your professional destiny.

Jumping Without a Parachute? Not So Fast!

Here’s the cheeky truth: I waited until I was ready. But let me tell you, "ready" looked less like perfect preparation and more like, "Well, my coffee tastes like freedom this morning."

1. The Financial Pillow Before I bid farewell to my regular paycheck, I made sure my freelance gigs could pay for more than just my coffee addiction. I had enough clients to keep my lights on and my fridge stocked. And yes, I built a cushy savings account because surprises are for birthdays, not bill payments.

2. Beyond the Comfort Zone The biggest successes lie just beyond the edge of comfort. I remember thinking, "Do I really want to trade my ergonomic office chair for... uncertainty?" Turns out, the view is fantastic from here. Two years into freelancing, and I haven't regretted trading my office badge for my freedom tag.

3. Testing the Waters I didn’t just dive headfirst into the unknown. I dipped my toes first, freelanced alongside my 9-to-5, and when I had more work waiting for me than hours in the day, I knew it was time to take off the training wheels.

So, When Should You Make the Jump?

If you find yourself daydreaming more about potential gigs than your current office drama, it might be time. If your side hustle starts feeling like your main squeeze, why keep it on the side? And if you’re more excited about setting your own schedule than attending another “mandatory fun” office party, well, I think you know the answer.

But here’s the kicker: You don’t have to go all in all at once. Start part-time, build your empire brick by brick, and when you’re ready to swing from that freelancing hammock full-time, you'll just know.

Here’s to turning dreams into reality and making every step count. Let's embrace the adventure together!
